HEATHER MORTON, ND

Licensed Naturopathic Physician

Gig Harbor, WA

Dr. Heather Morton received her doctor of naturopathic medicine degree from Bastyr University in 2015. During her studies, her focus was on primary care, women’s health, environmental medicine, and mind-body medicine. After graduation, Heather was blessed to complete a 3-year primary care and specialty naturopathic medicine mentorship with Bremerton's premiere doctor, Katherine Barkshire, ND, RN.

Heather is comfortable seeing a wide range of conditions both as a solo naturopathic doctor and in conjunction with outside specialists when necessary. As an advanced student clinician of naturopathic medicine, she completed a year-long rotation in mind-body medicine, providing direct clinical knowledge of how the this connection can have a significant impact on all aspects of health. Tools for stress management as well as individualized dietary recommendations and exercise prescriptions are present on every naturopathic treatment plan. Heather is also a lover of herbal medicine and enjoys discussing how we can use all those “weeds” growing outside to nourish and benefit for essentially no cost! Heather is comfortable managing common pharmaceutical interventions, reviews medical research daily, and is committed to remaining current with the latest health interventions and standards of care. She stays current in her field through membership of Naturopathic Academy of Primary Care Physicians.

Heather received her undergraduate degree in business administration from Western Washington University in 2000. She spent nearly a decade working in the financial industry in New York City and Seattle. It was during these years she discovered yoga and Ayurveda, the catalyst for her studies of naturopathic medicine to become a naturopathic doctor. Heather has been teaching yoga classes in the Port Orchard and Gig Harbor since 2009. Most of her free time is spent outdoors enjoying the bounty of nature the pacific northwest offers.

PRINCIPLES OF NATUROPATHIC
MEDICINE

Naturopathic physicians practice the six fundamental principles of naturopathic medicine:

The Healing Power of Nature
Naturopathic doctors trust the body’s inherent wisdom to heal itself.

Identify and Treat the Causes
Naturopathic doctors look beyond the symptoms to the underlying cause.

First Do No Harm
Naturopathic doctors utilize the most natural, least invasive therapies.

Doctor as Teacher
Naturopathic doctors educate clients in the steps to achieving and maintaining health.

Treat the Whole Person
Naturopathic doctors view the body as an integrated whole in all its physical and spiritual dimensions.

Prevention
Naturopathic doctors focus on overall health, wellness and disease prevention.

THERAPEUTIC ORDER
of Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine includes a therapeutic order. With respect to treatment, I always consider where a client is in the therapeutic order. There are many different types of medicine.

1. Establish the foundation for optimal health.

2. Stimulate the body's own self healing mechanism - vis, prakriti, chi, qi, etc.

3. Support and tonify/restore weakened systems.

4. Correct physical alignment and address structural integrity.

5. Palliate symptoms with natural substances.

6. Palliate symptoms with drugs.

7. Address pathology with the highest force including radiation, surgery, etc.
